31 Nights of Halloween Horror part 8 - The Hatred
The Hatred
90 mins
Dir. Michael G. Kehoe
2017/USA
My hatred for this movie knows no bounds. A trailer for this movie was released
over the summer, it showed a clip from the film and looked absolutely
terrifying, I couldn’t wait for this movie to come out. It was something I always thought should
be put in a horror film and it was creepy as fuck. Finally the movie was released and I eagerly awaited
watching it. And sadly that age
old tradition of the trailer showing the best parts of the movie came into play. But it wasn’t just that, the movie was
bad. It was just fucking stupid.
Prologue of a flashback to 1968 an escaped Nazi from WWII
starts a new life on a farm in America with his wife and young teenage
daughter. The daughter wants
to soil her wild oats in the city but dad won’t have any of it because well, he
is a dick, as all Nazis are. One
day a mystery package shows up on their doorstep, inside is an Iron Cross that
der fuehrer wanted this guy to have, so he buries it in the wall of the
basement. Meanwhile daughter is
like fuck you I am going to do what I want and you can’t stop me and dad is
like, no fuck you I will drown you ass.
And mom is like what happened to our daughter and dad is like, I don’t know
she seems to be missing. One day
dad is spraying DDT on the orchards wearing presumably a WWII gas mask get up
and I don’t know, has a heart attack or something and mom is like, man I married
a Nazi dick and takes the DDT gun and just squirts that shit into the tube of
the gas mask, packs her one suit case of belongings and splits.
Flash forward to the present, four annoying as fuck girls are
staying at a big house that David Naughton just bought and guess who used to
live in this house? Right, god damn nazis.
David Naughton has to go somewhere but he leaves his little daughter with the four annoying as fuck girls. Not sure why any of this is
happening at this point, but whatever, I am just happy the prologue is over and
we can get onto the good stuff. So
the girls talk and drink wine and do nothing and we follow them all along the
way. A thunderstorm hits at night
fall and they all decide to go to bed.
Seems there is a malevolent ghost in the house with them and in scenes
borrowed form other movies the ghost tries to do away with all the girls. The only one good scary scene in the
movie happens, it is tense and effective and then we are back to why is this
even happening mode quickly afterwards.
Events and characters are introduced that you think will
have have a purpose or subplot to the story that never show up again. Two of the girls disappear, presumably
killed by the ghost, but really we have no idea because we don’t see it happen,
find their bodies nor are they mentioned again. Towards the end of the movie the little girl is like
shouldn’t we go back and look for annoying as fuck girl #2 and annoying as fuck girl #3? And the main
character gives her a look like, I don’t even know who those girls were I just
met them on set two days ago when we started filming, fuck em. The dialogue is clumsy and unrealistic,
the acting is as wooden as Pinocchio’s nose and the purpose of the whole movie
is never explained. The Iron Cross
is filled with hatred and makes ghosts go mad or something, well not really
seems like the ghost of the girl from the beginning only wanted to have her
body found. So then why was she so
scary and mean? Because this is a horror movie and that is how it is supposed
to be. This movie fails on every
level, I could live with the bad acting if only they had an actual story that
wasn’t being made up as they went along.
If you want to see one of the scariest scenes in a horror movie, just
watch the trailer, there is no need to suffer through the whole film. Don’t let the Hatred consume you, avoid
this movie.
